Using an eSIM in Spain
Spain's main operator groups are Movistar, MasOrange (which includes the Orange brand) and Vodafone. Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia and the coastal resorts are well covered, including along the high-speed rail corridors.
Inland Spain and the islands vary. Rural Castilla, parts of Extremadura, the Pyrenees and some Balearic and Canary Island coves can have weak signal.
Good to know
- Renfe and Ouigo apps hold your train tickets, and many restaurants use QR menus that need a connection.
- Metro systems in Madrid and Barcelona have broad coverage, but underground gaps appear between some stations.
- Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and the Canary Islands are served by the same operator groups, with gaps in remote areas.
Spain eSIM questions
- Does a Spain eSIM include the Balearic and Canary Islands?
- Check the coverage line on the package details. Spain's operators serve the islands, but remote areas can be patchy.
- Will it work in the Pyrenees or on hiking routes?
- Signal drops in mountain valleys and on many trails on every network, so download offline maps and trail info before you set off.
- Can I use the eSIM for Spain's QR-code restaurant menus and bookings?
- Yes, anything that runs over mobile data works, including QR menus, table bookings and ticket apps. Save confirmations offline as a back-up in busy tourist areas where networks can slow.
