Install guide

Install an eSIM on Android

About five minutes at home, then one switch when you land. Menu names vary a little between brands — Samsung calls it SIM manager, Pixel calls it SIMs.

Before you start

  • Check your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked.
  • Connect to Wi-Fi. You need internet access to download the eSIM.
  • Open the QR code from your Arova email on another screen, or print it. If you only have this phone, use the activation code in the same email instead.

Install it (at home, before you fly)

  1. Open Settings, then Network & internet (or Connections).
  2. Tap SIMs, then Add eSIM or Download a SIM instead.
  3. Scan the QR code, or choose to enter the activation code manually.
  4. Follow the prompts to download the plan — stay on Wi-Fi, or cellular data if your phone and carrier allow it.
  5. Turn the new line on when you arrive, and set it as your mobile data SIM.

On a Samsung Galaxy the path is usually Settings, then Connections, then SIM manager, then Add eSIM.

When you land

  1. Open your SIM settings and turn on the travel eSIM.
  2. Tap the travel eSIM and turn on Roaming. Travel eSIMs connect through local partner networks, so they need it on.
  3. Set the travel eSIM as your mobile data SIM.
  4. Keep your home SIM on if you want calls and texts on your usual number — but turn its roaming off, so your home carrier doesn't charge you for data.

No signal? Try this

  • Check Roaming is on for the travel eSIM, not the home SIM.
  • Turn Airplane mode on for ten seconds, then off again.
  • In the travel eSIM's settings, turn off automatic network selection and pick one of the networks your plan lists.
  • If your plan's instructions include an APN, add it under Access Point Names for the travel eSIM.
  • Still stuck? Reply to your order email and a person will help.
