What uses the most data while travelling
- Video and streaming
The biggest driver by far. Lowering the video quality in your streaming and social apps saves more than any other setting.
- Photo and video backups
Cloud backup over mobile data can quietly use a large share of your allowance. Set it to Wi-Fi only before you leave.
- Hotspot
A laptop or tablet on your phone’s connection uses data like a second device, and its updates can be large.
- Video calls
Much heavier than voice calls or messages. Switch to audio when the picture isn’t needed.
- Maps and messaging
Light. Download offline maps before you go and they use even less.
