Install guide
Install an eSIM on iPhone
About five minutes at home, then one switch when you land. Your usual SIM stays in the phone the whole time.
Before you start
- Check your iPhone supports eSIM and is unlocked.
- Connect to Wi-Fi. You need internet access to download the eSIM.
- Open the QR code from your Arova email on another screen, or print it. If you only have this iPhone, use the activation code in the same email instead.
Install it (at home, before you fly)
- Open Settings, then tap Cellular (or Mobile Data).
- Tap Add eSIM, then Use QR Code.
- Point the camera at the QR code, or tap Enter Details Manually and copy in the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code.
- Label the plan something like “Travel data” so it's easy to spot.
- Leave the new line turned off until you land, then switch it on under Cellular.
On iOS 17.4 or later you can also touch and hold the QR code in the email, then tap Add eSIM. Depending on your iOS version, the button may read Add Cellular Plan rather than Add eSIM.
When you land
- Open Settings, then Cellular, and turn on your travel line.
- Tap the travel line and turn on Data Roaming. Travel eSIMs connect through local partner networks, so they need it on.
- Under Cellular Data, choose the travel line, and turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching so data doesn't fall back to your home plan.
- Keep your home line on if you want calls and texts on your usual number — but turn its Data Roaming off, so your home carrier doesn't charge you for data.
No signal? Try this
- Check Data Roaming is on for the travel line, not the home line.
- Turn Airplane Mode on for ten seconds, then off again.
- Tap the travel line, then Network Selection. Turn off Automatic and pick one of the networks your plan lists.
- If your plan's instructions include an APN, enter it under Cellular Data Network for the travel line.
- Still stuck? Reply to your order email and a person will help.
