Using an eSIM in Denmark
Denmark's nationwide mobile networks are TDC NET, TN-Network, which is shared by Telenor and Norlys, and Hi3G, whose consumer brand is 3. Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense and the Jutland towns are very well covered, and the small size of the country means gaps are less common than elsewhere in Scandinavia.
Many visitors travel by train and bicycle, and tickets, bike-share and city maps all work through apps. The coast of western Jutland and some of the smaller islands can see weaker signal.
Good to know
- Rejseplanen handles journey planning, while the Rejsebillet app sells tickets for trains, buses and the Copenhagen metro, so data helps when connections change.
- MobilePay is how many locals pay each other, and it normally needs a Danish number. Visitors usually pay by card.
- Trains and buses cross the Oresund Bridge to Sweden, and your phone may switch networks near the border.
Denmark eSIM questions
- Does a Denmark eSIM cover the Faroe Islands and Greenland?
- Not by default. They belong to the Kingdom of Denmark but have their own networks, so check whether the package details list them.
- Will my phone switch to a Swedish network on the Oresund Bridge?
- It can, because the bridge links Copenhagen and Malmo and the coverage overlaps. Whether the eSIM works on the Swedish side depends on the plan, so look at the countries listed.
- Do I need data to rent a city bike or use Copenhagen's metro?
- Bike-share and scooter apps need data to unlock, and Copenhagen metro and S-train tickets can be bought in Rejsebillet or used through the Rejsekort app. Mobile data also helps with live disruption updates.
