Using an eSIM in Cambodia
Cambodia's main mobile networks include Cellcard, Smart and Metfone. Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville and Battambang are well covered for maps, messaging and bookings.
Remote areas are thinner. The Cardamom Mountains, Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri, and some of the small islands off the coast can have weak or no signal.
Good to know
- PassApp, Grab and Tada are used for rides in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and tuk-tuk fares are easier to check with a connection.
- Telegram and Facebook Messenger are widely used by locals and tour operators, alongside WhatsApp, and all work over mobile data.
- Save Angkor ticket details, tour confirmations and ferry or bus bookings offline, as signal around temples and on islands can be uneven.
Cambodia eSIM questions
- Will my eSIM work around Angkor Wat and Siem Reap?
- In Siem Reap and at the main temple areas, generally yes, but coverage can vary at remote temples. Download offline maps and your tour details before heading out for the day.
- Is there signal on Koh Rong and other islands?
- The main beaches and villages may have service, while quieter coves and smaller islands can be patchy. Save your ferry and accommodation details before you leave the mainland.
- Can I use my Cambodia eSIM when crossing to Vietnam or Thailand?
- Only if the plan lists those countries. Land borders are common in the region, so check the coverage on the package before you cross.
